Building - Roof - Standing seam systems - Coastal (<1km from the sea) [C5-M]

Important specification
  • Aesthetics
  • Formability
  • Corrosion resistance
Recommendation

Different types of standing seam roofing systems exist on the market. The first type is made of profiled sheets which are then assembled on the roof. The second type is made of metal delivered in sheets or small coils, which are seamed directly on the roof by the installer. This second type of system requires high formable grades to allow the seaming. The metal usually used is very soft (DX54 or DX56) and highly formable to allow the seaming, even at low temparature in order to allow its processing outdoor in cold climates.

Steel can be installed exactly the same way as zinc or copper. Distance between seams is often 600mm and the steel thickness in commonly 0.6mm.

Magnelis® is a high performing coating especially adapted for high corrosive environments. It is a steel with a zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating alloy consisting of 93.5% zinc, 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium, applied by means of a continuous hot dip galvanising process. Magnelis® ZM310 is the first metallic coating that received a C5 certification. The Technical Research Institute of Sweden (SP) states that Magnelis® ZM310 is suitable for corrosivity class C5, according to SS-EN ISO 12944 - 2.
